Rapid prototyping with 3D printing

This is part of the Friday Track

Tickets available during online registration only

Learn how to 3D model and iterate prototyped solutions using a real world example in this intensive full-day course with limited attendees and expert trainers.

Creating physical products is a complex task. The most important things are that you have a product that does what it’s meant to, is easy manufacture, assemble and use. 3D modelling and printing allows us to prototype parts and have a higher level of assurance that we’re on the right track and have short turn around times between trials.

Kickstarter, Indiegogo and other crowdfunding sites have an almost endless trail of failed physical products, from the next big 3d printing tech to the next big custom dog collar and a lot of these failures are due to a great idea not being developed to a production ready prototype before release.

Why? Building physical products on a budget is very difficult and even the smallest defect that makes it to production can be a catastrophe; missing a screwhole, using the wrong material or making a bit of plastic slightly too thin could mean that your product rattles when it should be quiet, snaps when it should bend or just alltogether doesn’t do what its meant to.

The course itself

This is a guided course where you will be taken through the process of turning an idea for a physical product. We’ll start with a common project to work through from the concept stage, through validating requirements al the way to the first production-ready design.

What people will get

A solid approach to developing physical products from inception to pre-production.

You will need

  • laptop
  • 3 button mouse

Duration: 6 hours
