Verity: An Advanced VR Midwife Simulator

The CADET VR lab has developed a first of its kind midwifery training system enabling nurses and midwives in training to know what it is like to examine a patient and physically feel contractions.

The technology was developed at Deakin University and is patent pending and there are discussions with major simulation companies regarding commercialising the technology.

Users of the system wear a virtual reality headset providing them with a 3D view of a virtual environment of a patient in a hospital room and can place their hand on 3D printed abdomen.

Ongoing research has confirmed the simulator is able to generate realistic feeling contractions and ongoing research is looking at the role VR can play in better clinical decision making and training.
